Will of William Means, Sr.

Transcript of will. Documentation of children.

I, William Means, Sr., of the County of Christian and State of Kentucky, do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:
First I desire that all the perishable part of my estate be immediately sold after my decease, except such property as is herein otherwise disposed of and out of the money arising therefrom all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.
Second after the payment of my debts and funeral expenses I give to my son Robert Means a mulatto boy named Jacob.
Third to my son William Means I give a negro girl named Ann.
Fourth to my son John Means I give a negro woman named Phillis-my brown mare and colt, which horses he has already received. I also give him all my wearing apparel.
Fifth to my son James Means I give a negro girl named Jene.
Sixth to my son Joseph' Means I give a Mulatto man named Jacob, also my bay mare and big Bible.
Seventh to my daughter Fanny Hardwick I give fifty dollars.
Eighth I give to my grandson William Means, son of Sam Means, deceased, fifty dollars, also a note of fifty dollars, I hold on my son Robert Means. It is also my wish and will that all the balance of my monies arising from the sale of my property not above given or appropriated be equally divided between the above mentioned legatees.
And lastly I do hereby appoint my son William Means and my friend Samuel Alexander Executor's of this my last will and testament, hereby reveling all other, or former wills, or testaments, by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of March 1825.
