    Notes
    • Victoria became involved with a a Prussian soldier who worked for the Kaiser as a boot maker. They did not marry. (Another version: "One day, a soldier passing through her native town raped her". Hermann record gathered by parish priest) She subsequently went to Heidelberg where Carl was born. She came abord a ship with her son Carl, his wife Monica Steppe, and three small children, arriving in the US on 25 August, 1880. They were steerage passengers with the Manifest ID #80083 from Germany. They left from a port in France.
She was a tall, lanky, strong woman. Victoria lived with her son Carl and Monica and helped raise the 14 children.
In her later years she lived a short time with Charles and Marie Baumstark, but it was discovered that she had tuberculosis and because Charles and Marie had just had their first child, it was thought not to be a good idea to have her living with them. She subsequently went to St. Louis, to live with the Little Sister of the Poor where she died in 1906. She probably had ties with the sisters since she had lived in St. Louis when the family first came to the US. She had previously fallen on the ice and broken her arm when she was going to church to tell the nuns what songs to play at her funeral, but no one realized it until she was in St. Louis. She was laid out at Joseph Emil Baumstark's home in the parlor in a black coffin. She wore a black dress with a white collar. [1]
