JOSEPH BAUMSTARK DEAD.
Well known builder and contractor succumbs to long illness at his home in Hermann, aged 48 years. Funeral will be held Sunday afternoon.
Another of Hermann's good citizens has passed on, Joseph G. Baumstark, contractor and builder, who has been ill for months, died earl yesterday morning at his home on West Fourth Street, aged 48 years, 9 months and 17 days.
In his death Hermann loses a very popular citizen, one always in the front ranks in everything for the improvement and advancement of the city.
Many of the new residences in Hermann had their inception in the constructive mind of Mr. Baumstark, a master builder.
He is survived by his wife, nee Clara Kaiser, his children Clarence, Leonard, Mathilda, and Theodore, his brothers, Charles, Aloysius, George, and August Baumstark, of Hermann, Frank and Marcus of Kirkwood, and his sisters, Mrs. Mary Halsted of Denver Colo., Mrs Gertrude Vogel of Peace Valley, and Lena Baumstark, now Ver. Sister Adelgunda.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated in St. George's Church Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of the deceased and at 3 o'clock in St. George Church. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery.
Mr. Baumstark was born in 1877 at Busenbach, Eiling Germany, later accompanying his parents to America, the family locating on a farm near Hermann. Early in life he learned the carpenter trade, later together with his brothers engaging in contract work in which he was very successful.
He resided in Hermann about 30 years. Her was a faithful member of St. George Church and was affiliated with the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Men's Society.
In 1880 he came to this country and worked here for his father Till he reached the age of twenty-one, when he went to St. Louis. He also spent several years in Denver, Colorado, prior to 1905, when he embarked in the contracting business, with his brother Charles T. Their firm, known as Baumstark Bros. has built many Catholic churches and has done much work in Hermann and vicinity.
On November 8, 1905, Mr. Baumstark married Miss Clara M. Kaiser, a daughter of Herman and Mathilda Becker Kaiser, who was born June 19 1881 at Hermann. Her mother died while she was still a child (16) and she thus was obliged to assume the care of the home until her marriage.
Mr. Baumstark has served as city Councilman for four years. He is treasurer of the Knights of Columbus and member of the Men Sodality.
